History
The name “Bermuda Triangle” became popular in 1964 after author Vincent Gaddis wrote about it. However, reports of strange vanishings date back to the 1800s, when sailors told stories of ships lost at sea under unusual circumstances. - Flight 19 (1945): Five U.S. Navy planes on a training flight disappeared with 14 crew members. A rescue plane sent to search also vanished.
- USS Cyclops (1918): A huge Navy cargo ship with 306 crew members vanished without a trace.
- Star Tiger and Star Ariel (1948–1949): Two British passenger planes disappeared while flying over the area.
- Many other ships and small planes have reportedly gone missing over the years, sometimes even in calm weather.
